How Kids Can Create Stop Motion Animation With Windows 7

My son likes to create stop motion animation with Lego and having used Windows Movie Maker on previous incarnations of Windows, including XP and Vista, we was surprised to find it lacking on a recent purchase of Windows 7. For unknown reasons Microsoft has decided to cull this incredibly practical program from the basic installation and made it an optional download. Perhaps they want more hits on their website?

To download the latest version of Windows Movie Maker, its recommended by Microsoft that you download Windows Live Suite. What you get is a slimmed down version of the old Movie Maker but for simple animations this is all you need (for serious users try Movie Maker version 2.6). Install, have a look around and then get ready to animate.

As I mentioned previously, my son likes to create stop motion Lego animation so that is the context in which I will explain how to create animation with this version of Movie Maker. After taking the images with your camera import them into Windows and save somewhere handy.

Then open Windows Movie Maker and select Home tab (should already be default selection) then choose Add Videos and Photos. By clicking on the first image for your animation and then pressing Shift and clicking on the last image for your animation you will be able to import all the images at once. Not only that but they will be put in the order you took them.

Then press play. Chances are your images will each play for about 5 seconds each. This is great for a slideshow of travel snaps but not so good for moving still image frames so they seem to move for animation.

Using the same Click/Shift-Click method mentioned above, now select all your images as they appear in the window beside the screen that plays the video. Now select the Edit tab and goto the Duration box. The drop down menu will give you a selection of duration for each frame, starting at one second. That's way too long for us but fortunately you can specify lower amounts. I put in 0.10 as the duration.

Now you can add a title to the animation by selecting your first frame and using the Home tab's Title and Caption options. Use the Visual Effects tab to fade into your first animation frame to get things moving smoothly and then do the same to the end of the animation.

Adding music is a breeze. Simply return to the Home tab, select Add Music and then select the MP3 of choice. Save your project often, especially if it's a big file. Then to create your movie file, select the Publish options by clicking the icon in the top right corner of the screen. You can also choose to publish instantly to YouTube or save in various formats.

Creating simple stop motion animations with Windows 7 is easy and fast. With the new streamlined Windows Movie Maker kids can start their movie career with a few clicks.

You therefore get to save over $ 1,000 in a year that you pay to watch either cable TV or satellite Dish network TV. A History of Ringtone File Format Technology

Over the last 10 years ringtones have evolved from tinny, barely recognisable, quasi-musical renditions to full stereo tracks, exactly the same as heard on the radio or a CD. This transformation has been under-pinned by a shift in ringtone format technology in four key phases of development. This rapid evolution of these formats has been enabled by the fact that the typical person changes their phone every two years.

The very first generation of ringtones are known as "monophonic" ringtones as they could only support playback of one note as a time. The sounds these types of ringtones could make were also very limited, typically only allowing a single tone to be played at varying pitches. The typical format for monophonic ringtones was RTTTL, which was compatible with Nokia handsets, and could code the information to create the ringtone in a text file. This text file could be sent over-the-air (OTA) to a mobile handset, using the Nokia Smart Messaging standard, embedding the ringtone in a single SMS. Alternatively, users could create their own ringtones using a "keypress editor" which could create the ringtone file on the device itself. Other manufacturers developed their own formats as this stage including eMelody and imelody for by Ericsson, and MOT, a ringtone format used by some of the early Motorola phones.

Polyphonic ringtones, first emerged in Japan around 2001 and allowed several types of notes and instruments to be played at one time. The first polyphonic ringtones used sequenced recording methods such as MIDI. Such recordings specify what instrument should play a note at a given time, but the actual instrument sound is dependent upon the playback device. SP-Midi, a specific format for ringtones, eventually emerged as a standard, with different levels of polyphony - for example, 4-note, 16-note and 32-note. Again, there were some other formats that emerged alongside SP-Midi, including SMAF (also known as .mmf) - a Yamaha-supported music format that combines MIDI with instrument sound data. Polyphonic ringtones lead for a boom in the industry as the sound became much richer and more attractive to customers, but only required publishing royalties to be paid as the original track recording was not used.

The third generation of ringtone formats first appeared fairly quickly after polyphonic ringtones had become established in Western markets. These types of ringtones have been variously referred to as truetones, mastertones or realtones. In contrast to monophonic and polyphonic tones, truetones allow a full, high-fidelity recording, including vocals, to be used as a ringtone. The first format to provide this kind of experience was AMR-WB, which began being incorporated into Nokia phones in around 2004. The new format allowed an excerpt from the original recording or master track to be used as a ringtone, although a number of ringtone businesses opted to use cover versions of the track in order to reduce the licensing cost paid to the record labels.

At the present time, we are seeing the emergence of the fourth and final phase in the evolution of ringtone formats. AMR has already been largely super-ceded by ringtones that use the same format as full track downloads such as MP3, AAC, or WMA. For example, the new Apple iphone uses the same format for ringtones (AAC) as it uses for full tracks sold over itunes. One side-effect of this shift towards formats such as mp3 is the ability of users to create their own ringtones, either by uploading a full track to their phone or creating a ringtone by clipping the track in an audio editing programme.

With the convergence of ringtones with standard digital music formats such as mp3, the history of ringtone format technology appears to be at an end. It seems that mobile is now a part of the mainstream music market, rather than operating in its own separate world.

Michealangelo Merisi Da Caravaggio and Mattia Preti

The Order of Saint John was a Catholic institution with a very strong political disposition. The members belonged to the noblest, wealthiest families of Europe. The title of "knight" was a mark of nobility which, when conferred, brought to the individual many legal privileges, as well as eventual financial benefits and significantly attractive pensions. These advantages, coupled with refined taste, prosperous economic foundation and strong ties with the Papal authorities, led to a very vigorous relationship between the Order and the most notable artistic expression of the times. The accession of Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt in 1601 heralded a period of creative opulence for the island, which found its culmination with the arrival of Caravaggio and Mattia Preti.

The two Italian artists were both given the Knighthood of the Magisterial Obedience. However Caravaggio, being found guilty of homicide, was later expelled from the Order. One of Caravaggio's most impressive works can be found at St. John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta. This sacred work depicts the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, the patron saint of the Order. It is probable that Caravaggio executed this painting in payment for the 'passagio', the one-year obligatory noviciate a person had to spend prior to his attainment of knighthood.

The semi-circular composition - in a sweep of motion yet simultaneously frozen in time - converges on the executioner who is in the act of severing the Baptist's head. He is assisted by the jailer and a young girl holding a plate in readiness. A very dramatic atmosphere is evoked, highlighted by the poignant presence of an old woman.

Best Way To Learn Japanese - A Tale Of Two Cities - Part I

Living in Japan is the best way to learn Japanese because you have the bonuses of having first hand experience of Japanese culture, the country and its people. But before you leave, you need to get your brain ready to take on Japanese and Japan. To lessen culture shock and fortify your acquisition of Japanese, it would be wise to learn to speak Japanese online simply because it is convenient and affordable. Plus the faster you can master the hiragana and katakana (two standard syllabaries that are used in the Japanese writing system), the faster you'll be able to grasp the reading and writing in the textbooks and hence jump start your learning.

Choosing a city depends on whether you're a city or a country person, or a bit of both. For those of you who enjoy the city and country life, Okazaki is the perfect city for you to learn Japanese fluently and experience Japan.

Okazaki is located in the eastern part of the Aichi Prefecture (district) in central Japan. It is about a 2-hour ride on the Shinkansen (bullet train) between both Tokyo and Osaka, and Kyoto and Mount Fuji. The main part of the city is bicycle friendly, and to the east are the many hills and the forests that cover them. Okazaki has milder overall temperatures compared to most of Japan, the spring and autumn months are the best times to visit. Also, Okazaki is not as populous as most other cities. The city has many outdoor recreation facilities and parks for the outdoor enthusiast. For those of you who are in need of more contemporary and urban stimulation, the city of Nagoya is only a 30-minute train ride away to the usual big city hustle, bustle, and exciting nightlife.

Okazaki is a prefect symbosis of the old and modern world, of the city and country. This enables you to experience traditional as well as contemporary Japan. Furthermore, despite its recent economic growth, Okazaki has being able to preserve its historical traditions and character. This is evident in the many famous shrines and temples such as the Takisan and Daijuji temples, and the renowned Okazaki Castle. The Okazaki castle was the birthplace of the famous Japanese military leader Tokugawa Iyeyasu. He was portrayed in James Clavell's novel Shogun based on historical figures and events of Japan in the 1600s. However, Okazaki is most famous for their fireworks. The city proudly showcases these fireworks with amazing firework displays during the three-day Summer Festival in August, which is attended by people nationwide.

Because Okazaki is smaller, it is cheaper to live in and accommodations that are close to the school/college are easier to find. In addition, Okazaki language colleges include free cultural workshops such as making arts with Washi (origami paper) and weekend excursions, such as trips to Kyoto, to visit and explore the old Imperial city. Or you could opt to plan your own excursions.

All work and no play make you a burned out student. So you should take advantage of using your free time to interact with the locals by:

· Checking out the Okazaki bars and restaurants that specialize in tempura or in fugu (blowfish)or udon and kishimen noodle dishes or the world famous Okazaki Hatcho miso soup that is known for its medicinal and health benefits.

· Checking out the Okazaki nightlife that offers many Karaoke bars and local Japanese lounges called izakaya where you can eat and drink.

Remember the best way to learn Japanese is in Japan. However, before you go you need to educate yourself with regards to its history, culture and etiquette, and at least learn basic Japanese. If you want the best of both worlds, then Okazaki is the ideal city to study Japanese. Okazaki offers you a chance to experience a truly Japanese experience without the often daunting "bigness" and fast-paced pulse of a "mega" city like Tokyo.

Is The Ipod Ruining Music?

Effects of The Ipod

Just a week ago, I was headed up to a concert about two hours away from home. We sort of consider these concerts to be miniature road trips. In the past, we'd pop in a cd, crank it up for a while, and then we hop into a discussion about chicks, politics, potatoes, etc. The music being played kind of took a back seat until we ran out of things to talk about.

Well, this trip was a little different. The difference was no one brought any cds. Instead two of the group brought Ipods which played through the radio with an FM modulator. In the past, we'd flip through cd case after cd case looking for that one certain cd, but once we had found that one cd we were committed to it. On long trips, it was rare to take a cd out without listening all the way through it.

Well, enter the age of the Ipod. The Ipod has done to music what cable has done to television. You now have the magical curse called "choice". Of course, all choice does is lead to indecision. I'm not sure if watching another person flip through 200 satellite channels on TV drives you crazy, but it certainly does me. For two hours, I watched two people do nothing but flip through song after song. It was VERY rare if we made it through one minute of a song. In fact, I doubt if we made it through an entire song at all.

While it does seem great being able to carry 41 days of constant music in your pocket, I have to say that the average Ipod user may be missing out. There was something to listening to an entire cd on a trip that helped define the great albums. We all have those 5 or so records that we'll never get bored with that we can always listen to all the way through. How would you know what a great record was if you had never had to listen to it all the way through? Sure, sometimes it seamed like a curse having to listen through a crappy song, but cds took care of that pretty easily. You just hit the "skip" button.

The real tragedy is there really wasn't that much music listening going on. It seams that a device that is designed to make it easier to listen to more music has a drastic downside. If people do little more than flip through song after song with their Ipod, then the Ipod is taking away from people's musical experience.

Yet, people still try to buy bigger and bigger Ipods. I remember thinking that 10GB of Mp3s was an enormous amount of music. Now 60GB versions are very common. I couldn't imagine who really needs 41 continuous days of music without repeating a single song. If you turn the Ipod off for sleeping, you are sitting at right at 60 days of music without repeating a single song.

Where Are All Of These Songs Coming From?

So how are people filling up their Ipods? Are they buying songs at $1 per song from Itunes? I've got a gut feeling that most of them are not. Assuming a one minute MP3 uses 1 MB and the average song is 4 minutes long, it would cost $15,000 to fill up a 60GB Ipod. Ouch! I don't know too many people who have spent $15,000 on purchasing music. I DON'T KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS SPENT $15,000 ON MUSIC!!

It seams pretty clear that if the average college kid were paying $1 per song, they would probably wouldn't need an Ipod much larger than 1 or 2GB. Yes, I'm aware that you can store other data on an Ipod, but I don't know too many people who plan to haul around RAW video data on their Ipods.

So Who Is Getting Paid?

The labels still seam to be afloat even if they are signing a smaller quantity of artists. They certainly don't seam to be as excited about their profits as they may have been ten years ago. It's no secret that if the labels aren't getting paid, the artists definitely aren't getting paid either.

Music Is Expendable!

I remember just a little over 10 years ago. My family was low on cash. I decided that I wanted a rare Nirvana import called Outcesticide 3. The cd cost $30 and had to be ordered from Japan. I decided that the only way to buy the cd was to not each lunch at school for a month. (I was too young to get a job). So, I did without a meal each day for an entire month so that I could save $1 per day and order my Nirvana import. You could imagine how I felt the day the cd finally came in. I had put myself through torture for an entire month to get that cd.

I was at an uncle's house recently. My cousin was on his computer. He decided he wanted to listen to some rare Nirvana songs. He opened up his favorite peer to peer download software and typed in Nirvana or whatever. In about 10 minutes, he had almost the entire cd that I had starved for a month for.

While it is exciting that technology exists that makes it faster to download a song than it is to take the cd out of it's case and place it in the player, it seams that this somehow makes the music worth less to the individual. When a listener has to sacrifice for an album, the album is a little more memorable.

I mean I can remember the exact day I purchased many of my favorite cds. For example, I remember being 16 and buying Goo Goo Dolls, "A Boy Named Goo". Me and my buddy were driving 90 mph on the way home like a bunch of immature idiots. It turned out that we had passed my mom without realizing it. When I got home, I was doomed. (That one didn't end on a happy note).

Uhh, good luck having any stories about how fast you downloaded an mp3. Good luck even remembering the day you downloaded a given mp3.

So who is winning with the Ipod?

Is the music listener winning? They now have a portable music machine that can hold 2 million zillion songs. Of course, the mp3 player costs about 3 times as much as a portable cd player did 10 years ago. With the luxury of having so many musical options, some people spend a lot more time flipping through songs than they used to. Ipods can hold an enormous amount of data, but this just leads to people blindly downloading every song under the planet. It's cool being able to hear a song, but having a free library of every song under the sun can make music expendable.
Of course, the labels and artists don't seam to be winning.

In fact, I can only think of one guy who has really won from the Ipod...Steve Jobs, founder of Macintosh.

Natural Health - Make "Super Bowl" a "Super Soul" Sunday

There are some people who have absolutely no interest in the Super Bowl football game this Sunday. I'm one of those people, although I do like to be supportive of the gang in front of the TV yelling and screaming as if they can move those little men and the flying football on the screen. And, of course, it's always fun to have a reason for a party. But the Super Bowl can give the "less-than-sports fan" a reason to have a day, totally separate and apart from the rest of the gang.

"Super Bowl Sunday" can turn into "Super Soul Sunday" by whipping up facemasks and spa cuisine for yourself as you prepare the chicken wings and chili for the game. It's an opportunity to have a soulful day of self-care and pampering in your own bath and bedroom - far away from the beef and beer.

Here's how to set up your Super Soul Haven:

--Purchase a great CD for your player or download to your MP3/ipod
--Make sure you have a headset for your music (to block out the yelling at the quarterback)
--Prepare your bath ingredients: Bath gel base and one of the following essential oils:

lavender
chamomile
geranium

--Prepare your facial ingredients
1/3 c of fast cook oatmeal with 1/2 c water and cook for 1-3 min ¼ cup of honey added to cool oatmeal mixture - place in bowl

--Create a colorful dish of raw vegetables and a dip (Simply Organic is a great dip)

--Brew some green tea - a beverage that often accompanies baths in Japan. After the wings are served - run your bath, take your tray of veggies and tea with you and slip into your Super Soul Haven for a great spa!

How to Study English Verbs With This Special Technique

Studying while you are doing other things is special technique. You need a way to study without a book that is big and heavy. And you need a little special equipment. I recommend the iPod, and you can use other mp3 players too. The great advantage is they are light, small, and you can change the contents easily. Listening to stories on these devices can be a great way to study.

In my line of business, I know a lot of people who are studying English to speak it better (and listen better). Students of English need to know an effective way to study English verbs. Then they can really control the language. Language is a tool and the more ways you can use the tool now, the better.

Many students say that they cannot study because they do not have enough time. I say you can study while you are in transit from one place to the other. Like walking to the station. Or perhaps driving your car. You can even study while you go shopping, or ride a train or a bus. Of course, you need a special technique to study while you are doing these other things. Listening to stories is the answer. Most societies used to have oral histories. We are good at listening to stories, and remembering.

In fact, I listen to stories too, to study. Listening is great because you can hear the speaker's tone of voice and understand the message better than just the written word. And you can always read later, when you have sit-down study time. In fact, that is a great way to complement studying by listening. If you read the story later, you refresh your memory. You have to access the auditory memories. And you can check for parts you didn't understand. Then the next time you listen, it is clearer.

...use stories to learn a new language?

Why not use stories to learn a new language?

And you can learn English verbs in the stories you listen to. Especially if they are targeting the verbs you want to learn.

You target the verbs you want to learn while you do the sit-down study at home. You decide what verbs you need to learn. Make a list. Then find stories (recorded in mp3 format) that have those verbs in them. Check the meanings of the verbs, just to be sure.

After you check the meanings of the verbs you are ready to move to the next step of the study program. Listening. Put the mp3 stories you need to practice listening to on your listening device (like an iPod, I mentioned above). Keep it with you and listen whenever you are not talking to someone, or doing some work that has words in it (like washing the dishes, or riding the train). You may listen while you do exercise.

.. true for travel to work and school...

If you do exercise regularly, then you will start to practice listening regularly. This is true for travel to work and school, too.

But if you drive a car, you should not use an iPod, or other device like that. It is dangerous. You want to study, and you want to be safe. If you drive a car, you can listen to CD's. Burn the mp3 onto a CD and listen to that in the car. Be sure to give your attention to the road, and have the story running like background music.

If you are exercising or riding trains or washing dishes, or other safe activities, you can give more attention to the listening practice.

You want to give attention to the listening practice because you have to shadow it. Or sometimes listen and repeat. Or sometimes just think about the meaning. Those are the three central activities you can do in your listening practice for English verbs.

Focus on the Verbs... Why?

English verbs form the core of speaking. They give the central action, the meaning. They tell us what is going on. Students need to know a wide range of verbs. Native speakers use a wide range of verbs, and you need to be able to understand them. You also need to know a lot of verbs so you can express a wider range of ideas.

That's why students should focus on verbs.

Even students who think they don't have time can learn this special technique for studying while doing other things. Use technology like iPods and mp3's to study. Listen to the stories again and again. Briefly check the meanings of the words before you study them in the stories you choose. Do this regularly and frequently. These are the core study habits you need to really start to control the language you are studying.

Go now to http://www.english-listening-world.com/english-verbs.html where you can download a story and start practicing this special technique and learn a whole new way to learn!

Free Chinese Mp3 Downloads

Downloading mp3's is one thing. Downloading Chinese mp3's is another thing altogether. Unless you know how to read and write Chinese characters, you might find yourself taking twice as long to find and download songs. Luckily, the Internet is sprawling with so many mp3 Web sites and a lot of them do have Chinese songs put up. If you are searching for an internationally-acclaimed artist or song, then you might not have to delve deep into the online jungle. Examples of such artists are Japan's Utada Hikaru and Korea's Rain. Both singers have amassed a huge following not only in Asia but in the western world as well.

Personally, my first choice is free music as I can only assume that it's a Chinese search engine since it functions just like one. All you have to do is click on the word mp3 (which is the only English word there) and type away at the blank provided before pressing the "go" button. If, for example, you know only one word or one character from the whole title of the song, you can just type it anyway and a whole bunch of mp3's with that particular word would appear. Then again, you can always just copy the title of the song and paste it on the blank.

However, if you fail to find your song at Baidu or you plainly just can't figure out how the whole Web site works, you can try searching for your favorite Chinese mp3's. Unfortunately for most of you, the whole Web site is in Chinese so you might struggle a little bit with it and might have to blindly navigate your way around. However, this is the perfect place to download the latest releases from China. Lyrics and flash videos are also featured here. In case you are wondering what flash videos are, they are animated flash videos made by fans for their favorite songs and artists. Again, I can only assume that they are fan-made because I can't really make out the language. Still, you'll be having plenty of fun checking out all the links. In fact, you'll find yourself so busy and distracted with all the goodies (especially the flash videos) that downloading mp3's might just take the back seat. On the other hand, if you are one of the privileged few who can understand Chinese, then you'll definitely appreciate the gossip that comes with the Web site. Talk about a multi-purpose page.
